The Tapa of the Week (Entries 6 & 7)…

O.K., so I know I slacked off (again) last week–but here’s a double dose of pincho-related goodness to make up for it!!…

This week, I take you to Las Menades, a bar/café that’s right across the street from my school…

Livin’ “Dat Expat Life”: Monthly Recap #2…

Oy–once again, ya’ll, I’m sorry for not being so conscientious with the posts, but the life of an auxiliar gets kinda hectic sometimes…And, mira, another month of my life here in Spain has come and gone–so let me fill you in on what I’ve been up to these last 4 weeks!!…

Strolling Along the Mediterranean:

In late-October, I spent a weekend in Gandía and Denía (2 Valencian cities), where the annual UEBE (the Spanish Baptist Convention) conference with members of the church I’ve been going to here…While I didn’t enjoy the conference at all (there was no sense of dynamism or fervor, and things were far too rigid), it did come with a silver lining: I finally got to fulfill my lifelong dream of wading into the Mediterranean Sea, :-D…

Zesty Zaragoza: Las Fiestas Del Pilar…

Sorry, lovely readers–I was too wiped last week to provide an entry for this lovely series, :-(…But, to make it up to ya’ll, here’s some lovely, never-before-seen-on-this-blog snapshots from Las Fiestas del Pilar!!…

In case you’ve missed my article on Las Morenas De España, the Pilares are an annual festival that commemorates ZGZ’s patron saint, La Virgen del Pilar (who, by the way, also has a cathedral in her honor!!)…

‘Tis a wondrous event, filled with tons of lights, concerts, theatrical performances, Zumba marathons, and gofres–lots and lots of gofres (waffles)…

The Tapa of the Week (Entry #5)…

For this week’s pincho, I take you to an establishment that’s not in the Tubo–it’s in a bar called El Rincón de Sara (Sara’s Corner), which is about 4 min. from my house on Avenida de Madrid (I apologize beforehand for the relatively poor quality of my pics)…

The Tapa of the Week (Entries 3 & 4): El Ensanche’s Morcilla w/ Squash & El Refugio’s Garlic Croqueta…

SORRY, YA’LL!!…I know I’ve REALLY been slack with this post series, but last week I was super-busy, and yesterday, I was too exhausted to even write!!…But, let me make it up to you with a special double-serving of deliciousness!!…

Livin’ “Dat Expat Life”: Monthly Recap #1…

As of today, I have officially been living in España for a little over a month–it is truly crazy how the time has been flying!!…

So, this post essentially amounts to an “In Case You Missed It” regarding my first month of “Dat Expat Life”…

The Arrival/Rough Adjustment:

As I wrote previously, I had a less-than-smooth arrival to ZGZ capital…The first week and a half getting settled in and sorted was stressful, to say the least–but, things have gotten SIGNIFICANTLY better since then: I’ve made some friends, gotten myself orientated the city/know more-or-less which buses and tram routes to ride, and have been adjusting to being an adult foreign national–with a bank card, I.D. #, and everything!!…

Zesty Zaragoza: La Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar…

Taking some titular inspiration from a previously-written post, I’ve decided to start a regular [hopefully] post series dedicated to my adopted hometown: “Zesty Zaragoza”!!…The idea is to highlight a monument/area within ZGZ, just to show how special the city is!!…

In light of the Fiestas del Pilar that just ended here (there WILL be a post on this, I promise!!), I dedicate the first post in the series to the Basílica erected to honor the Virgen of the same name…

The Tapa of the Week (Entry #1): Croqueta de Arroz Negra at Doña Casta…

O.K., people–today, I shall attempt to write what shall be the first entry in a (hopefully) regular series of posts entitled “The Tapa of the Week”!!…As you can probably guess, the point is for me to highlight a pincho that, I feel, was the best that I’ve eaten for the week…

This week, I went to La Taberna de Doña Casta, a bar in El Tubo (the city’s main tapas district) that is an all-around favorite…As a lover of croquetas, I had heard people rave that Doña Casta has the best in the city–so obviously, I had to see it for myself!!…

Kingdom Of Heaven???…No–Just Loarre!!…

As I wrote the previous week, last Sunday, I took a trip with some Erasmus students based in Zaragoza that, unfortunately, ended with an arduous journey up a cliffside…However, the first stop of our little excursion was SIGNIFICANTLY more enjoyable–especially because it didn’t involve me risking my life!!… Continue reading “Kingdom Of Heaven???…No–Just Loarre!!…”

That Time I Went To Riglos–Or, The Hike From Hell…

This past Sunday, I had the opportunity to take a little excursion to Huesca–Aragón’s northernmost province–with a group of Erasmus students based in Zaragoza!!…We had two main destinations: the first was the 11-century castle known as Loarre (which I’ll elaborate on in a future post!!); the second was a little pueblico known as Riglos…

Zesty Zaragoza In Photos…

Hey, ya’ll!!…As you might know, it’s been almost 2 weeks now since my *hem* less-than-smooth arrival in Zaragoza, and even though the whole “adjusting to adult living” thing in new surroundings continues to present challenges, I realize that I’ve developed a certain affection for this city that I now call home, :-)…

So, in honor of the #SundayTraveler series (hosted by the lovely Adelina from Pack Me To), I share photos of this place whose secrets I am continuing to uncover–slowly, but surely, as every good voyager should, :-)…
