In spite of all the frustration that was had in actually getting here, I’m FINALLY in London–and my first day here was interesting to say the least!!!!
Upon arriving at the House, I lugged my things to my room, which isn’t the swankiest–but it’s nice and cozy–maybe it’s that Victorian atmosphere (the house was completed in 1875)–with a sink and a lovely view of the back garden…Plus, the House looks even better than in pictures…
…The Churchill Room…
…The namesake of the Churchill Room–apparently this bust was unveiled by Sir Winston’s daughter, Sarah, in 1977…
Then again, the neighborhood we’re in–Hampstead–is just as lovely–but with houses that sell for about 9-10 million pounds each, I wouldn’t be surprised (maybe that’s why so many celebrities live here)…
Instead of simply sleeping off my jetlag in bed all day, I went with some of the other girls in my group on a scenic bus tour of the city…Miracle moment: After accidentally dropping my ticket in the madness that is Piccadilly Circus, I was miraculously able to find it again–for some reason, it was still on the street and hadn’t been stolen or blown away somewhere…All I can say is that God is good!!!!
With the tour, we were able to see where the major landmarks and neighborhoods of the city were–I haven’t entered any yet, but you better believe I will, in the near future!!!!…
…The person in the orange shirt is me…
In the evening, I went to Steele’s Pub, a popular nearby local, to chill with a good deal of my housemates…Having eaten a late lunch, I just got dessert and a pint of cider…
Not a bad day to spend your first day in London, eh, :-)???…
Oh, and the title of this post is inspired by the nice man who worked behind the counter at the Heathrow Express, who kept reffering to me as My Darling…And on a final note, I couldn’t leave you without a token photo of a Tube stop sign
Final Question: Has anyone been to London and knows of any cool, lesser-known areas that won’t be as swamped by tourists???…
Loved the photos – reminds me of my time in Londontown, and oh how I miss it! Most tourist sites are swamped, especially in the summer! What are you interested in? There might be some ideas that will tickle your fancy here: http://takingtotheopenroad.com/category/living-local/london/
Or drop me a comment on my blog and I’ll respond with some ideas! 🙂
…Well, I’m REALLY interested in some good live music–indie, blues, whatevs!!!!…Do you know of any good music spots???…
