One Day More…

It’s not what you think–I didn’t steal the title of one of the best songs in Les Miserables for the title of this post (and it’s just coincidence that I’ve just come back from seeing it for the 3rd time [2nd time in Spain])…What I’m referring to is my first official excursion with the group that starts tomorrow…

…As you can see, Marius Pontmercy here approves…

There are three places we’re going to go…First up is Ávila, the capital city of the province of the same name and birthplace of Santa Teresa de Jesús, a famed nun/writer…We’ll see at least one of it’s cathedrals, the city’s muralla (wall) and El Valle de Los Caídos (The Valley of the Fallen), where Francisco Franco is buried, along with over 30,000 others who fell during the Spanish Civil War (if you don’t see the irony here, I’ll explain later)…

Next, we’ll hit up Madrid, which is where our hotel is at…It looks a little something like this (if I’m not mistaken):

Eat your heart out Ain’t it gorgeous???…

Do I really have to explain what Madrid is known for???…With it’s many museums, theaters, thriving nightlife, abundant shopping, and, of course, the finest club in the history of Spanish football (¡¡Hala Madrid!!), if not all of footbal…I seriously feel that Madrid is constantly overlooked (it seems to me that Barcelona is overrated [both city and club])…

And from Madrid, we’ll go to Toledo and back, and then on to Segovia  before heading back to Salamanca…Toledo is an ancient city (and the capital of the province of the same name) that where you can see the cultural imprint Islamic, Jewish, and Catholic religions have made on the España that we know today…

…Simply lovely

Segovia, another ancient city, is where we’ll get to see an aquaduct that dates back to Ancient Rome, a lot of religious buildings, and the Alcázar de Segovia, which looks a little something like this:
